Events during the year
Staying at La Casa sul Mare not only puts the sea within walking distance but also allows you to reach many of the area's most characteristic events in just a few minutes. Throughout the year, Alcamo, Castellammare del Golfo, and the surrounding areas host traditional festivals, food and wine festivals, concerts, and cultural events that make your stay even more authentic.
The dates of some events change every year, so we always recommend checking the updated schedule before your trip.
January – Nativity Scenes, Epiphany, and Christmas Traditions
The first few days of January still retain the festive atmosphere. In Alcamo and nearby towns, you can find nativity scenes, concerts, family activities, and events related to the Epiphany, often until January 6th. It's a quiet period, ideal for discovering the area away from summer tourism.
February – Carnival
During Carnival, several municipalities in the area organize parades, masquerade parties, music, and shows. Dates change annually based on the calendar, but it's a pleasant opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Sicilian towns during a less crowded time.
March – San Giuseppe and Ciokowine Fest, Alcamo
On March 19th, San Giuseppe (Saint Joseph) is celebrated, a deeply felt occasion in Sicilian tradition, often associated with typical sweets, votive tables, and religious moments. Around the same period, between March and April depending on the year, Alcamo also hosts the Ciokowine Fest, one of the city's most anticipated food and wine events, featuring tastings of local wines, artisanal chocolate, street food, music, and shows in the historic center.
April – Holy Week and the Procession of the Mysteries, Trapani
Holy Week is deeply felt throughout Sicily. In Alcamo, rites and processions linked to Easter take place, while in Trapani, about 30 minutes by car from Alcamo, the famous Procession of the Mysteries takes place on Good Friday. It is one of the oldest and most evocative processions in Italy. The dates change every year because they depend on the Easter calendar.
May – Cantine Aperte, Santa Rita and the Kite Festival
Spring is the ideal time to visit wineries, vineyards and inland villages. With Cantine Aperte, usually held in May, many wineries organise guided tours, tastings and events dedicated to wine. In Castellammare del Golfo, around 22 May, Santa Rita is also celebrated, with religious events and moments linked to local tradition. Also in May, in San Vito Lo Capo, about 30 minutes by car from Alcamo, the International Kite Festival takes place, a very suggestive event where the sky above the beach fills with colourful kites, performances, workshops and family-friendly activities.
June – Feast of Madonna dei Miracoli, Alcamo
From 19 to 21 June, Alcamo celebrates its patron saint, Maria Santissima dei Miracoli. It is the city’s most important festival, with processions, concerts, shows, stalls, religious moments and fireworks. During these days, the historic centre comes to life and it is one of the events most deeply felt by the people of Alcamo.
July – Alcamo summer events and the Festino di Santa Rosalia, Palermo
July is one of the liveliest months of the summer, with concerts, open-air shows, cultural events and evenings organised between Alcamo, Alcamo Marina and the nearby towns. For those who want to experience one of Sicily’s most spectacular festivals, Palermo is about 30 minutes by car from Alcamo. On 14 July, the Festino di Santa Rosalia is celebrated: the great triumphal float travels along the Cassaro, on Via Vittorio Emanuele, all the way to Porta Felice and the sea, accompanied by music, performances, lights and thousands of people. The evening traditionally ends with fireworks over the Foro Italico.
August – Calici di Stelle and the Feast of Maria Santissima del Soccorso
August is the month of summer evenings, tastings and outdoor events. Around the night of San Lorenzo, events linked to Calici di Stelle often take place, with wine, music and stargazing. In Castellammare del Golfo, from 19 to 21 August, the Feast of Maria Santissima del Soccorso, patron saint of the town, is celebrated. One of the most emotional moments is the sea procession, during which the statue of the Madonna is accompanied by boats in the harbour and Cala Marina area, creating a very suggestive atmosphere.
September – End-of-summer festivals, Madonna dell’Alto and Cous Cous Fest
September is still perfect for the sea, but with a more relaxed atmosphere than August. On 8 September, Madonna dell’Alto is celebrated in Alcamo, while in the second half of the month, in San Vito Lo Capo, about 30 minutes by car from Alcamo, the Cous Cous Fest takes place. It is one of the most famous food festivals in the Mediterranean, with tastings, international chefs, concerts and shows.
October – Grape harvest, wine and autumn flavours
With autumn, the area once again reveals its agricultural soul. October is the month of the grape harvest, winery visits, tastings and events linked to wine, olive oil and seasonal flavours. It is an ideal period for those who love slower tourism, made of nature, good food and less crowded villages.
November – San Martino, new olive oil and less crowds
November is a quieter month, perfect for those who want to discover the area without the chaos of the high season. Around 11 November, Saint Martin’s Day, Sicilian tradition celebrates new wine, San Martino biscuits, chestnuts and autumn flavours. In nearby towns, there are often also festivals dedicated to new olive oil and local products. It is the right time for those looking for slower rhythms, less crowded restaurants and a more authentic experience.
December – Christmas in Alcamo and the surrounding area
In December, Alcamo and the nearby towns light up with Christmas markets, nativity scenes, concerts, shows and family activities. Between 7 and 8 December, the Immaculate Conception is also celebrated, while throughout the Christmas period the historic centre comes alive with events, lights and traditions that make the atmosphere more intimate and suggestive.
